Running Research (Tokyo 2006 Day 3)

...three trains and 45 minutes later...

If you have been reading this for a while, you probably know that I like to run. So in planning to come Tokyo, the running gear was one of the first things to get thrown in the suitcase. There are several places in Tokyo to run and most of them run through parks or other "less-concrete-more-foilage" areas. Believe me, if you're looking for greenery in Tokyo, you'd be hard pressed to find huge groves of it.

The two leading candidates are Yoyogi Park in Harajuku and Tamako Jitenshado way out in west Tokyo (actually *outside* of Tokyo).

I have been to Yoyogi Park several times and it's pretty nice with lots of shade. An oasis in southwest Tokyo amid the trendy fashion set in Harajuku (more on that later in the week.

Tamako Jitenshado is a biking/running/walking path which used to be a train line. They ripped up the tracks and paved part of it over to achieve this. Although some train line gyrations were necessary, the place is absolutely beautiful. I think we have a winner...
