Andy and Suszi Finally Get Hitched

Woah oh, look what you've done to this rock n' roll clown...

I just spent one of the most enjoyable weekends with several of my good friends.

Andy and Suszi exchanged their wedding vows on Sunday night in front of about 200 of their closest friends and relatives. The ultra-cool thing was that Andy (Fadden as he's known to most of us) asked me to be one of his groomsmen.

It started one evening of the "Gourmet Club" (a group of 10 friends getting together on a monthly basis to cook for each other) where everyone called in sick and cancelled except Fadden, Suszi, Janet and I. We ended up at the Afghani House for dinner and I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when he asked me to be in his wedding. I couldn't get the word "yes" out of my mouth fast enough...

Zoom forward to this past Thursday and switch channels to the Andy, Don and Wm. show at a tuxedo rental shop. Talk about three sharp lookin' cats...

Zoom forward a bit more to Saturday's "Guy's Day" with Fadden, Don, me, Art and Jay. We said we spent 12 hours in a strip club but we really did everything *but* that. As far as bachelor parties go, this one was the best, topped only by mine which was very similar. Five guys talking biz, geek, fast cars and food. Keep the clothes on, honey...we're talkin' here...

Sunday (yesterday) was the best part of the whole shebang. We got together at around 4 pm in Belmont on the Notre Dame college campus in the beautiful Ralson Hall. We took pictures, made sure that Fadden was ready to go, and then the best man (Don) and the groomsmen (me and Fadden's brother Dudley) changed in to brightly coloured socks to surprise...well, someone...

As with my wedding, the ceremony was over in a flash but was totally memorable. Before we knew it, we were out in the entryway of the main hall congratulating each other for a job well done. It was then that we decided to flash our little secret. On the count of three, we raised our pant legs to reveal the horrible truth about brightly coloured crew socks. I wore purple, Don yellow and Dudley bright red. The look on Fadden's face was priceless. The wedding party were nearly in tears laughing so hard...

The rest of the evening was a blur (almost, more in a sec...) but there were so many friends there that it was a joy just to look around the room. Afshin, Brian L. and his wife down from Tahoe, Sam and Jules, Joe and Yumi, Kieca and Matt, the rest of the Gourmet Club (Bill, Sharon, Mike and Pat), Timo and Hillary, and a bunch of others that I just can't recall here...

Since Suszi is a singer and has done so for many years, she and her group sang three songs acapella just before dessert including a very unique version of Def Leppard's Photograph which had me reveling in the "dada" of the moment. After it was over, I gave Fadden the universal "heavy-metal" salute from across the room and true hilarity spilled out all over the place...

So....the best and I mean the BEST part of the evening was when Andy and Suszi had their first dance. They were both very clearly in the moment but I noticed something that I will never, ever forget. The look on Suszi's face, as she gazed up at Andy, was the look of the happiest person on the face of this planet.

There is NO OTHER WAY to describe it. Roll all of the sweet gliding-on-air presence of the joys, successes and triumphs of one's life...all of the ecstatic, spine-tingling, toe-curling nigh-on-orgasmic head-rushes of the perfect moment into one beautiful face and that would be Suszi's in that one wonderful snapshot of time. There is no possible way to forget something like that--I know that I won't. Nirvana was achieved that night and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been part of it.

Andy and Suszi...if I would have had the chance to raise my own toast to you last night, I would simply say that your pursuit of happiness is complete as you have found each other. May you remain in that moment for the rest of time.
