Walk On The Left Side


(Day #6 from my October 12-20th trip to Tokyo with my friend Les ...)

Crowds are interesting in Tokyo and they seem to walk in a similar manner to how they drive. In Japan, driving is on the left side of the street. And walking seems to be too. Maybe.

The crowds of people filling the intersection of the Center-gai in Shibuya, when the lights go green, walk as if they're inside of a giant pinball machine. There's no rhyme or reason--just mass convergence. Contrast that with your typical Japanese subway station. Lots of people prefer the left side but there's always someone bucking the trend on the right. Remember, the tallest nail gets hammered down. Except when rushing for a train...
